…..we can do better

Accountability in Africa is like a plague! A myth… something we mention in our corporate values so we look legit but in actual fact we hate to the core, we would much rather die than be actually accountable and now to speak of internet accountability, who let Jojjo the clown out?

A few days ago I was reading about the internet shut down in Sudan and I was reminded how in Zimbabwe not too long ago, the internet was shut down by the powers that be, that my dear friends is when I knew that internet in Africa is like living on borrowed time, given and taken as desired. Cameroon, Gabon, DRC to name a few 3 loool have also succumbed to this ungodly fate and they have one thing in common….dictatorship

Too much “propaganda” being spread… we shut it down

Truth? Rumors? Who cares…..we shut it down,

Freedom of speech much!?….we shut it down.

Grown men with potbellies that clear the way for them, driven in the latest Range Rovers, sitting at a round table thinking and thinking and the final thing that is said is, “the best way out of this situation is to shut the internet down. I mean it’s not like intranet is a thing, it’s not like people have friends and families abroad worried sick who might want to get in touch with them, after all we use manual systems so what do they need the internet for..Shut it down!” ….and with that accountability is discarded of like an ill-fitting dress.

With that being said, have you ever wondered what adults actually use the internet for? I didn’t until now and it’s actually interesting. Below is a table showing what adult internet users actually use the internet for.

Me,myself, personally did not find this hard to believe…a greater percentage of us hehehehe use the internet for social purposes and less for learning and purchasing proven by the blog post on 5 apps I cant live without. Definitely cyber crime has played a huge role in low purchases and online payments, issues of card/information cloning and the likes have people wary about online payments, compared to America (table below) we still have a log way to go. Online courses are obviously not favored cause it means that you actually need a stable connection and you have to be possibly using Wi-Fi cause data is expensive.

Seeing as we love being on social media, what do we do on social media Source: Pew Research

Based on the table above clearly we should use the internet more for promoting each others’ products, blogs and you know blogs lol. Let’s do better than just being on social media talking about music and movies.

Let’s do better regarding issues on accountability, future leaders of Africa.

DO better lol

I know I will….try

Anyone to interpret this song? 🙂
