…..unapologetic black gold
I have been eagerly waiting for the electricity to return so I can type away while copying and pasting then I heard we have apparently entered phase 2 of loadshedding meaning longer hours of no electricity and it’s cold, no one deserves this, no-one at all.
I want to be honest for a bit, this challenge has made me realise I actually don’t know as much about my continent as I would love to. I feel like there are people I genuinely should know but I don’t and that’s okay no pressure…. i cant know everyone, but I should know some…right?…no? ok π
1. Chipo Boka
Man, the first time I saw this lady I was like wow what a beauty! The way she spoke so eloquently, carried herself I was like what a boss lady making power moves in a doek. For you to understand just how inspired I was, I would have to tell you about the time my ex-boss told me not to wear a doek to work cause it didn’t fit with the company culture. He told me this after a year and a half of on and off wearing doeks and I was legit confused cause it was a creative company and one would think the idea is to express yourself in a creative based company but no. I actually cried telling my workmates who were even more confused than I was… I don’t know I felt like he was tearing a part of me. So to meet a CEO of the biggest tobacco auction floor in Zimbabwe wearing doeks and making them look like its part of the corporate wear culture thing blew me off away
2. Chipo Chung
if you watched “Into the Badlands” you will understand. Chipo plays the Master who is the baddest, the Pablo, the godfather of fighting lol ok it’s not that serious but you get it! I don’t know how Africans manage to get themselves in these spaces, but it’s always a reminder nothing is impossible African child, Azra is ours too
3. Petronella Chigara- Dhitima
Before I started working for Mrs D, I didn’t know that you can be a consultant in Zimbabwe and actually thrive. She really inspires me no doubt, a hardworking, classy, humble and God fearing woman who says “thank you well done” for sharpening her pencil…gosh she’s the best
4. Monica Musonda
I knew about this lady through twitter. I was on the Zambia curators group don’t ask me why, one thing led to another and I found myself there and I started following the lady who was curating and she was talking about mentorship and the likes and who people would like to be mentored by and the name “Monica Musonda” kept popping up. so I decided to do some research on her and I loved what I saw. African empowerment we all about that lifeπ
5. Sahle-Work Zewde
The Head of State of Ethiopia. Women in power is slowly becoming normal, women making strides in politics is slowly becoming normal. The fact that she is married, has children and is still waking up everyday to run a couple try…if you are not inspired I don’t know what will.
This is me today, I read the topic as African women who inspire me ππ, unapologetic women…this is what we need more of
