Things African Content Creators should avoid

These days anyone can be a content creator. All you need is a good phone, a social media account and voila you are on your way to being a content creator.

But the thing is being a content creator is more than that. It takes a lot of intention, planning and research. I have watched a 30 second video clip that took months of research and preparation. I have listened to a minute long song that took months of practice and lots of experimenting with different beats/ sound.

Constantly producing work that is invaluable and worth your audiences’ time is a tall order. The good thing is if you enjoy what you do, you live to fight another day.

There are things that as a content creator you should avoid that might possibly compromise the quality of your work.

  1. Avoid confusing yourself to other creators: You are your own person. Someone out there wants to buy into you and what you are selling. There is nothing as satisfying as subscribing to original, fresh, authentic creators. Make use of SEO’s too.
  2. Avoid thinking people will just find your work: Promote, promote, promote your work. Be out there and make use of all the social media platforms available.
  3. Avoid thinking you are just a brand: You are more than that, you are an experience. Having worked with and being surrounded by content creators I believe this entirely. Whoever you are, writer, designer, visualizer just know that you are selling an experience. You choose what kind of experience you want your audience to have.

Whatever you do African Content Creator avoid getting tired, you are doing well already.
