…..I don’t want to talk about it

Racism and gay rights are difficult conversations to have and I don’t like having difficult conversations. The thing about these kind of conversations is that if you condone you are passive, if you condemn you are not woke enough, opinions come with labels and there is no winning.

In 2019, we shouldn’t be having these conversations but here we are. All you have to do is watch movies like “the hate U give” docu-series like “when they see us” and follow certain world leaders on their twitter pages to realise that racism is alive and even in 2019 we still have a long way to go.

The first time I came across a homosexual man, I was confused and mesmerized, I had never met such a free spirit in my life. This guy was like happiness goals, makes sense they are called gay. In Zim you rarely came across them unless you lived in certain neighborhoods, it still applies today but it seems more men are coming out of the closet. They are just ordinary folk who love whom they love and they have their rights too.

In as much as homosexuals deserve their rights, we need to respect everyone elses’ rights who does not “understand” their way of living. My friend was once called all sorts of names because she decided she didn’t want to share a room with a homosexual woman, she was flat out persecuted for that and I did not understand what the fuss was about I just thought she has a right to choose doesn’t she? She didn’t hate her she just didn’t accept her lifestyle choice. Thinking about it now I am a bit wary about it because had a white person said she didn’t want to share a room with her because she is black, the hell that we would have rained down calling her racist and all we would have gone to social media town about it.

The thing is racism and homosexuality have the same thing in common discrimination. So if you are persecuted because of your skin color, rest assured someone is persecuted because of their sexuality and religion as well. Whether you agree with a certain lifestyle or not, that is perfectly fine and you are allowed to your opinion/choice what you must remember in all this is that your duty is to love and respect the rights of every HUMAN BEING.

If you hate white/black people hey man that is you, hate them all you want, if you hate homosexuals hey man hate them till the sun turns blue just remember as Nicky Gumbel said “when you judge, accuse and condemn you project what you refuse to see in yourself” let God be the judge in all matters especially these touchy topics, what He does not like He fixes by Himself in His own time.
