#BOTY 2018: Day 2
On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me, her fav tv show released in 2018 😉
Anytime someone says Shonda, I am the first to look up. The minute I just hear that a new series is out and Shondaland is involved, I am the first to look for it. So when I heard Station 19 was out I didn’t hesitate, I looked for it and bleeh I wasn’t really impressed, it’s okayish after Chicago Fire these fire-house drama series don’t make much sense to me. Just like after watching 14 seasons of Greys Anatomy and Greys Anatomy only I really didn’t think I would watch another medical series. I enjoyed Monday Morning but they only released the pilot season and that was it which was rather sad, I found it funny. So imagine my amazement when I started watching New Amsterdam and I was hooked like a hanger in a wardrobe. . I will not even begin to talk about The Good Doctor.
So the series is based on a public hospital called New Amsterdam and no its not in Amsterdam lol. The one thing that really intrigues me when I watch it and these other medical series is how they run their hospitals like a business. And to be honest the logic is simple, we need money to make sure that machinery is always working, staff is paid, cafeteria has food for the staff, medication is available etc and it always gets me thinking if this is just TV stuff or there are genuinely hospitals like that? Some of the hospitals will be concerned if you neither have insurance aka medical aid nor cash cause they are just like how are we going to replenish what you used up and to be honest that’s a really fair question, a question I don’t think the public hospitals ask.
Now I don’t know how the hospitals in Zimbabwe work but from what I have seen they leave a lot to be desired. Are we not able to copy a chapter from these hospitals books and request for funding from private institutions? From what I heard Parirenytwa has a private wing that’s legit world class world class and it has everything, please note this is speculation, I have never been there but I have heard from different people. It just shows that they have the capacity to be top notch so where do we get it wrong? There are so many corporates that are into this CSR thing and would do anything for the cameras, just like how we have the “This island is maintained by Telone/ CIMAS” boards along 4th street, why cant we have that in our hospitals? “This maternity wing is sponsored/maintained by Steward Bank” cause they have the capacity and they can do it.
I don’t know these are just my thoughts, I don’t know much about how the hospitals work and how and/or where they get their funding from but surely there must be more that they can do without necessarily depending on the government. I know bureaucracy, permanent secretary what what but hey as they say it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission especially if you know it will not be granted but is for the greater good.
S.W.A.T I see you boo, Hondo (pronounced Hun-dough) keep doing the things, keep doing the things.
Also do check out Condor, Killing Eve and Happily Divorced and The Millers are also super funny. Don’t watch Sirene it was a seriously failed attempt at Ocean Girl.
